Exercises During Acute Back Pain

Exercises may aggravate back pain and should be avoided when you have acute low back pain. At Sarvotham we recommend to stabilize the condition first.

Muscles can strain, or get overstretched. This usually occurs as a result of fatigue, during acute pain. Strains can happen in any muscle, but they’re most common in your lower back, neck, shoulder, and hamstrings, which is the muscle behind your thigh.

Don’t Sleep In A Moving Vehicle

Sleeping in a moving vehicle may cause minor Whiplash, also called neck sprain or neck strain, is an injury to the neck. So, don’t sleep without neck support while traveling.

Whiplash causes pain, tenderness, stiffness and loss of movement in the neck. You may also experience headaches, muscle spasms and pain in your arms or shoulders, the symptoms of whiplash often take a whole six to 12 hours to develop but it may be longer.

Pain In Neck & Hand (Cervical)

Cervical spondylosis is a general term for age-related wear and tear affecting the spinal disks in your neck. As the disks dehydrate and shrink, signs of osteoarthritis develop, including bony projections along the edges of bones (bone spurs). Cervical spondylosis is very common and worsens with age or could be a lifestyle prone at early ages.

Stiffness in the neck, Numbness or tingling in a shoulder or arm, that may go down to your fingers. Weakness in the hand or arm, dizziness / disorientation/ difficulty in sleeping.

Pain from neck all along the head (Occipital Neuralgia)

Occipital neuralgia is a condition in which the nerves that run from the top of the spinal cord up through the scalp, called the occipital nerves are inflamed or injured. You might feel pain in the back of your head or the base of your skull.

Aching, burning, and throbbing pain that typically starts at the base of the head and radiates to the scalp, pain on one or both sides of the head, Pain behind the eye, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to sound, slurred speech, pain when moving the neck etc…

Pain From Neck & Headache (Cervicogenic Headache)

Cervicogenic headache is a pain that develops in the neck, though a person feels the pain in their head. Cervicogenic headaches are secondary headaches. Secondary headaches are those caused by an underlying condition, such as neck injuries, infections, or severe high blood pressure.

In addition to a throbbing head pain, symptoms of cervicogenic headache may include: pain on one side of your head or face. A stiff neck, pain around the eyes, pain while coughing or sneezing, a headache with certain neck postures or movement etc…

Pain In Lower Back (Lumbar)

Shooting or stabbing pain in the lower back, Pain that worsens with bending, lifting, standing, coughing / sneezing, walking etc..

Back pain can have causes that aren’t due to underlying disease. Examples include overuse such as working out or lifting too much, prolonged sitting and lying down, sleeping in an uncomfortable position or wearing a poorly fitting backpack.

Pain In The Leg (Sciatica)

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body.

Pain in the rear part of the leg that is worse when sitting, hip pain, burning or tingling down the leg, weakness, numbness, or difficulty moving the leg or foot, constant pain On one side of the rear, shooting pain that makes it difficult to stand up and increases while walking.

Pain While Sitting (Coccydynia)

Coccydynia is inflammation localized to the tailbone (coccyx). There are many mimics of coccydynia. Symptoms and signs of coccydynia include focal pain and tenderness at the tailbone. The pain is usually dull and achy. An injury to the coccyx is a major risk factor for coccydynia.

Pain while sitting and especially becomes more from sitting to standing position, it is generally confined to the tailbone. Pain is usually described as an aching soreness and can range from mild to severe.
